2012 Tudor Reading Challenge

2012 Tudor Reading Challenge Hosted by The Musings of ALMYBNENR

So I decided to sign up for the 2012 Tudor Reading Challenge hosted by Amber at The Musings of ALMYBNENR.  I have a few on my TBR already and this will help push me to get to them.  I do love reading about this time period!
All the books read for this challenge must be Tudor related. Books that feature any Tudor from Henry VII to Elizabeth I and any spouses, lovers, close family members, or themes count. There are a lot out there, so no worries!
  • Henry VII (Creator of a dynasty): 5 books
  • Henry VIII (Larger than life): 10 books
  • Mary I (The first queen of England): 15 books
  • Elizabeth I (Gloriana & the Golden Age): 20 books

I'm going to go for Henry VII: 5 books.  I could probably read more but I'll keep it simple for now since I have so many books to read already.

The books I know I plan to read are:
The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
Mark of the Rose by Kate Pearce

I'll add others as I realize what they will be.

I did it! I reached my goal!

2011 Reading Challenge

2011 Reading Challenge
Candace has completed her goal of reading 150 books in 2011!

My reading goal for 2011 was 150 books.  I was fairly certain it would be easy enough for me but I still had such an amazing feeling of accomplishment.  This has been a record year for me.  I've mostly stayed at home and worked only a few weekends and my daughter was in school so I think that helped.  Of course I still have my two year old... but we came up with a routine (sort of) and I can usually get my reading done.  One thing that helps is keeping my netbook upstairs.  If it's close by I tend to jump on more often and that really puts a crimp in my reading time!  So I 'schedule' my time online and usually only get on twice a day, morning and evening (thank goodness I have an iPhone so I can keep up with emails with it).  Some days I'm just too overwhelmed and spend more time on it doing interviews, prepping posts, etc, but on average it's much less than it use to be.

I think I'll put my goal at 200 for the year now.  I'm fairly certain that's achievable!

So what were your reading goals?  Have you reached them?  What sorts of tricks do you use to get more reading done?

Just for Fun Reading Challenge

Lori at Dollycas's Thought's is hosting the Just for Fun Reading Challenge.  This is to challenge you to read one book a month off your shelf Just for Fun.  These are for those books that we feel we just don't have time for.  We're so busy reading review books that we just don't get to the ones we really want to read.
Now this challenge is for at least one a month, but I'm changing it to one a week.  Yes, one a week.  I've been turning down a lot of review books so I can get to my TBR pile (which is actually a bookcase and a half) and get those books read that I was dying to read last year.
The sign ups for this challenge end Jan. 31st, so be sure to head over and sign up

My goal for January is to read the first three Harry Potter books and at least one from my TBR bookcase (books I've had two or more months).  I have one HP down, two to go!  I've read one book from my TBR bookcase as well.
My goal for Feb. is to read two more Harry Potter books and at least two more from my TBR bookcase.
