I think I might be getting slightly burned out on YA, I have found towards the end of this year at least I have been enjoying a lot of adult books. Like really, really enjoying them. When I think of my favorites it's pretty easy to come up with them. I don't read half as many adult books as YA, but it's possible that that is changing since it seems like I've had a hard time with the YA books I've been reading. I guess we'll see...
Here's my favorite adult books of 2013 and yes, it's a fairly short list. I really picked my very most favorites. You can find my favorite YA books of 2013 HERE.
BTW, I'm feeling MUCH better. Thanks for all the well wishes while I was sick.
Nefertiti's Heart by A.W. Exley (Review)
Steampunk with a perfect balance of romance, mystery, characterization and world building. Total WIN!
Must Love Otters by Eliza Gordon (Review)
Adorable, hilarious and FUN; this one was probably one of the most romantic books I've read this year but the hilarity of the things that she went through elevated this one even more.
Tempt the Stars (Cassandra Palmer #6) by Karen Chance (Review)
This is one of my favorite UF series and I'm always SO excited when another book comes out. It seems like the wait in between is SO long!
Shadows of Asphodel by Karen Kincy (Review)
Steampunk/Dieselpunk, a creative and unique world and a romance I TOTALLY loved! I cannot WAIT for more!
The Warrior & the Flower by Camille Picott (Review)
Asian inspired high fantasy and an adorable little girl that stole my heart. Totally fell for this book!
Generation V (American Vampire #1) by M.L. Brennan (Review)
This is a FANTASTIC start to a new UF series! I actually just finished the 2nd book and it was pretty stinkin' great as well! If my review was up and it was released before next year I would be adding it here.
Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder (Review)
This could fit in the YA category as well, I labeled it as both but I guess I consider it more adult even though there's not 'adult' content. I really loved the start to this new series and the second book was great as well and could probably be on this list too.
So what were your favorites this year?

I definitely need to read Generation V and A Touch of Power as soon as possible. Thanks for sending Shadows of Asphodel my way, it really stands out. It's wodnerfully original. I wasn't as crazy about Tempt the Stars, but I love the series overall.
ReplyDeleteHighly enjoyed Generation V and Touch of Power! I'll have to check out the others. Glad you're feeling better. Being sick sucks.
ReplyDeleteFun choices! Some of these I need to try.
ReplyDeleteI've only read one of the books on this list Candace, I need to fix that! I've heard such great things about Maria V. Snyder, I really want to give her books a try. Must Love Otters is definitely on my list, looking forward to that one!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Touch of Power, however the sequel, was a bit of a let down. Still hoping book 3 would make up for it. Hope you're feeling better, Candace!
ReplyDeleteI think I have Touch of Power on my shelf...I should check it out!
ReplyDeleteNice list! I think Must Love Others is something I would enjoy. I'm glad you found so many good books this year! Thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteSo many up there I want to try! I really thought Touch of Power was YA, but I've seen it listed as NA as well. Plus, with the content you are right... totally adult. :) Great list!
ReplyDeleteGreat list-I'm always happy to see a Snyder on a favorite list as I've been a fan of hers for a while. YA is giving me problems too with adult non-fiction being the genre that is satisfying my reading right now-weird right?
ReplyDeleteOh I need to check out Must Love Otters. I love your picks and will check out some of those as well.
ReplyDeleteI really want to read Generation V. I found it through your blog and was immediately interested. I want to try and read more adult books. I used to read a lot but then I started focusing so much on YA for the blog...it's been a mix lately, but I haven't really read any new adult titles lately.
ReplyDeleteI loved the Cassie Palmer series ! I too have been wanting to read 'Tempt the Stars' since its release but haven't had the chance to get it ! I so look forward to reading it!
