I'm very excited because today my 8 year old daughter is on the blog for her very first review! I'm going to let her go first and then I'll share a few of my own thoughts at the end. Enjoy!
i like the girl named gollie. i like gollie cause she's a girl. i like the characters cause they're funny. the characters are bink and gollie . in the first chapter gollie was the queen and i like queens. in the next chapter bink made something. in the last chapter bink and gollie collect stuff and that's it.
Wow, it looks so much shorter cause when she wrote all that down on the paper it was a full page!
Anyway, the Bink and Gollie books are new to me. I hadn't heard of them until a friend gave us an ARC that came into her store. These aren't chapter books, but they do have three stories inside. So for a reader who is just getting into chapter books, or almost chapter books, it's perfect. I think my daughter felt like she was reading a chapter book. In reality they are pretty simple stories and consist largely of dialogue between Gollie and Bink. The pages are full of illustrations and at times have several scenes in one page (like a comic book). Some pages consist entirely of an illustration and then there's a sign or something. The illustrations are very important to the story like a comic book is.
I wouldn't say this was a favorite for me to read, but I didn't dislike them either. I did really enjoy the illustrations and I like that we get more than one story in each book. My daughter read the entire thing before bed (maybe 10-15 minutes) and was pretty pleased with her accomplishment. I think it was encouraging for her. She also got all excited and wants the other books in the series, so that shows you that she definitely liked it!
