Review: Heist Society

Heist Society is a YA book by Ally Carter.  This was a fun and light read that I thoroughly enjoyed.  Here's a description:


When Katarina Bishop was three, her parents took her on a trip to the Louvre...to case it. For her seventh birthday, Katarina and her Uncle Eddie traveled to Austria...to steal the crown jewels. When Kat turned fifteen, she planned a con of her own--scamming her way into the best boarding school in the country, determined to leave the family business behind. Unfortunately, leaving "the life" for a normal life proves harder than she'd expected.

Soon, Kat's friend and former co-conspirator, Hale, appears out of nowhere to bring her back into the world she tried so hard to escape. But he has good reason: a powerful mobster has been robbed of his priceless art collection and wants to retrieve it. Only a master thief could have pulled this job, and Kat's father isn't just on the suspect list, he  is the list. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat's dad needs her help.

For Kat there is only one solution: track down the paintings and steal them back. So what if it's a spectacularly impossible job? She's got two weeks, a teenage crew, and hopefully just enough talent to pull off the biggest heist in history-or at least her family's (very crooked) history.


My Thoughts: 
I really enjoyed this book.  It pulled me in immediately and it was easy to continue.  No urges for breaks because of annoying characters or brain pain (deep thinking).   I've been reading a lot of YA books lately so I was very happy that this one wasn't full of teen angst.  
There was a hint of romance, but it was barely there.  I actually could have done with more romance in this one!  I don't know if Ally Carter has plans to turn this into a series, but if she does that would be awesome!  And I really hope we see more romance if she does!  
I loved the whole heist aspect of it.  The planning, the gadgets, the creativity.  It was different for a YA book.  Perhaps slightly unrealistic, but that didn't bother me at all.  And the art descriptions and the museum scenes were quite interesting to me.   
This book was full of strong characters that were easy for me to visualize and connect with.  They had unique, yet realistically flawed personalities that made it a bit more real for me.
This is one book that I can see as a movie.  It would be a lot of fun to watch.  According to Ally Carter's website it's been optioned by Warner Brothers.  Honestly, no surprise to me!  
Overall this was a really fun read and I would love to read more books with a similar feel.  If you have recommendations please leave them in the comments!
