Sometimes I find it hard to review first books in a series. I don't know what it is, but I tend to pick the poor things apart even when I really like them. And I did really like this one. My problem is that with first in a series' we're getting introduced to new characters, a new world (well, our world with some things added in) and just a new concept of things. It can be a lot to take in. Fortunately I didn't feel like there was too much to take in as the world is basically ours but there are angels. The MC, Alex, doesn't know they exist, and she passes off what she 'sees' as her being too tired or maybe a little insane.
The first book in a series is setting up a whole series so it might not all be done the way you like but in a whole the series may end up being a favorite. There were some things I didn't love in this one, I grew tired with Alex having a hard time accepting things, and I kind of just wanted them to get over their issues with each other. But I loved the way the book ended and I'm quite sure that the series is going to end up being absolutely fabulous!
While I didn't love Alex through most of the book she began to grow on me. I think that now more has been revealed she'll become a character that I can really love. I'm anxious to read the next book and find out!
Aramael... hmmm... I kinda felt the same way with him. I liked him later in the book but in the beginning I kinda wanted to smack him. Fortunately he redeemed himself in my eyes and I found myself furious about the situation he was put in.
Okay, so this review so far has sounded kind of negative. But I've been sure to point out, it's just a small piece of a bigger picture! And with how this one ends it looks like the bigger picture, or the next book at least, will become something different. Something that I'll like better because now they know more. There's some stuff going on 'upstairs' (heaven) that is going to make this series pretty freaking awesome. I think. And so I'm definitely anxious for more!
